Safari Extension & Privowny Autofill: what’s the difference?
The Safari Extension is available on all supported versions of iOS, but only in the Safari mobile browser. Accessed through the Share button, it gives you quick access to your Password Manager from registration or login forms to create new accounts or retrieve your credentials.
Privowny Autofill, available on iOS 12 or later, uses Apple’s native autofill password feature to give you access to your saved credentials directly from the top of your Apple keyboard. With it, enjoy easy logins on all your favorite apps and website (on any browser). Starting with version 1.22, Privowny Autofill also gives you access to your Password Manager on registration forms to create new accounts.

* Starting with Privowny App v1.22, Privowny Autofill can be used to fill registration forms, but due to technical limitations from Apple, you will need to copy and paste your password as it can't be autofilled.

Using the Safari Extension to generate account credentials and register
Let’s say you are visiting a website and would like to register a new account with strong credentials and save it in your Password Manager. On the registration page, before you tap in any field, tap on the Share button and find the Safari Extension icon (OI logo). The Password Manager opens up. Click on the yellow to add an account.
Before iOS 13
On iOS 13
In the creation page, you can generate an alias email address and a password or enter credentials of your choosing, and save them. The Password Manager then goes away, returning you to the website’s original form, already filled with the credentials you just created.
With the Safari Extension, you can create a truly secure and private account by generating an alias email address and a strong password.

You can also use credentials of your own choosing if you prefer.
Login credentials = User ID + Password. The set is saved as an entity and can be retrieved together when you need to access an account. A User ID can be a lot of different things: a username, an email address, a phone number, etc.
Let’s say you want to register with your own User ID (which may not be an email address) and to customize the password for your new account credentials:
- Tap on the Share button and find the Safari Extension icon (OI logo)
- Your Password Manager opens up —> Click on the yellow
to create a new account
- Enter the User ID of your choice
- Generate a strong password that meets the specified requirements:
- Tap on the
icon
- In the pop-up, customize your password so that it meets the website’s requirements and tap on “Use generated password”
- Tap on the
- Tap on “Save and Fill”
This set of credentials is saved in your Password Manager and you are returned to the now-filled registration form.
If you are only interested in generating an alias email address and want to use your own password, you can do that too.
- Tap on the Share button and find the Safari Extension icon (OI logo)
- Your Password Manager opens up —> Tap on the yellow
to create a new account
- Tap on the
icon to generate an alias email address to use as a User ID
- Enter a password of your own choosing
- Tap on “Save and Fill”
This set of credentials is saved in your Password Manager and you are returned to the now-filled registration form.
Using the Safari Extension to log in
The Safari Extension can fill forms with credentials saved in your Password Manager in the Safari mobile browser. If you are on iOS12 or later, you can use Privowny Autofill to do so directly from your Apple keyboard. If you want to retrieve your credentials in an other browser or app, you will need to use Privowny Autofill.
In order to use this feature on your Apple device, you need to activate the Safari Extension in your app’s Settings.
In Safari, if you already have an account saved in your Password Manager for the website you are on and you need to log in to your account, then, from the Share button:
- Find the Safari Extension icon (OI logo)
- Select the account you wish to use from the offered list
- If you don’t see the account you want in the list and are sure it is saved in your Password Manager, you can use the search function to find it!
- Enter your Master Key or use Touch ID/Face ID to retrieve your encrypted password
Your login credentials are retrieved and the login form is filled.
Your Master Key is a sequence of characters that you created and that you and only you know. It is used to decrypt the sensitive data stored in your Managers. You are its only guardian, we truly have no access to it (and therefore can’t misuse it or put it at risk), so make sure to keep it safe and not lose it or your encrypted data would stay in gibberish form forever. The good news is this is the only password you now need to remember!
You can adapt your preferences regarding the Master Key from the security section of your Settings. Learn more
To use Face ID or Touch ID, you need to link it to your Master Key. It is as safe as entering the Master Key and more convenient. To set up Face ID or Touch ID, go to the Settings, and under “Biometric authentication” tap on the relevant toggle to enable the one you want.
You wish to log into your favorite website and already have an account but you want to save it in your Privowny App Password Manager. That’s a good idea, here’s how to do that with the Safari Extension:
