Personal information is the fuel powering our modern economies. It is a valuable asset used for a wide range of personal and commercial purposes. Most people, however, have little knowledge or control over their identity and personal information. The Data Manager helps people manage and take back control of their identity and personal information.
With the Data Manager you can:
- Know where and when you’ve left your data;
- Search for and track the types of data you’ve left behind;
- Protect, through leading encryption, your sensitive data;
- Manually enter data to keep track of so that it is always at your fingertips, like your credit card numbers and banking information, phone numbers, loyalty cards, credit freeze pin codes, license plate numbers, or family member social security numbers.
Collect and View Data
Go to a website and browse around, then look at the Data Manager. You’ll see how much explicit and implicit data you’re leaving behind. Privowny App collects a copy of the data you leave behind by default, but you can stop this at any time for specific websites by switching the toggle to gray (off) in the Toolbar. You can also turn off data collection completely by switching the toggle to off in the header of the Data Manager.
Search for Data
If you shared your credit card or home address with a company, the Data Manager captured that for you. For example, open the Data Manager and search for the last four digits of your credit card number, or your house number, e.g. “1165.” The Data Manager will show you with whom and when you left your data. Now, if you lose your credit card or move, you know who to contact.
Warning: It is possible to encrypt all the data saved in the Data Manager, BUT, if you do so, the search feature will not be able to re-index the encrypted data, and it will no longer be searchable.
Manually Enter Data
The Data Manager lets you manually store, encrypt, and retrieve data. Open the Data Manager on your desktop browser or mobile app and click/tap the plus “+” button. Enter any information you like. For example, you can use the Data Manager to store your full credit card and banking information. Lose your wallet, you’ll have the information you need to take action. Or, use the Data Manager to store your credit freeze pin codes. You no longer have to rely on your memory or a piece of paper to remember them. Remember to then encrypt your data to keep it safe!
Encrypt your Data
Unless you decide to encrypt it, the data collected in the Data Manager is kept “in the clear” (not encrypted) by default.
You can encrypt any piece of data stored in the Data Manager, whether it was collected or added manually. For example, you should encrypt all sensitive data, such as social security numbers you might have provided on a website or added to your data vault.

Encrypting collected data will only encrypt the copy of the data stored in your Data Manager, NOT the data collected and stored by the website you were visiting.
