Where can I find it?
The Data Manager is accessible from the navbar. The Data Manager is symbolized by a stack of papers.

The Data Manager displays all the data collected by the Privowny Browser Extension if you have installed it on your desktop browser (Chrome or Firefox) and have allowed it to store a copy of the data you leave behind when browsing the internet, as well as data you’ve entered manually.
To see the details of the data associated to a company or website:
- Tap on the company name/website
Using the Data Manager
You can manually add as many pieces of personal data as you wish: passport numbers, bank account information, social security number… The Data Manager is also a vault and you can protect any and all pieces of data by encrypting them.
To do this:
- Tap on the big blue
button (bottom right) —> it opens a new screen
- Enter the relevant information in the fields (Company name or Name of Personal Data, Type of Data, Data value)
- Tap on the “Save” button

Unless you decide to encrypt it, the data collected and stored in the Data Manager is kept “in the clear” (not encrypted) by default (unlike the Password Manager which encrypts your passwords by default). Not all the collected data is worthy of encryption but some certainly are (bank information, IDs, etc.). We highly recommend that you encrypt any sensitive data, whether it was collected by a website or added manually to the Data Manager.
To do this:
- Tap on the company name/website to display all associated data
- Tap on the piece of data you wish to encrypt
- Tap on “Encrypt data”
You can also encrypt all the data from a single session at a time:
- Tap on the company name/website to display all associated data
- Tap on the menu (
) on the right of the session information
- Tap on “Encrypt the session”
Encrypting data left online on your desktop browser will only encrypt the data stored in your Data Manager, NOT the data collected and stored by the websites you were visiting.
To decrypt your data:
- Tap on the company name/website to display all associated data
- Tap on the piece of data you wish to decrypt or the menu (
) on the right of the session information
- Tap on “Decrypt the data/session”
- If prompted, enter your Master Key or use Touch ID or Face ID
Your Master Key is a sequence of characters that you created and that you and only you know. It is used to decrypt the sensitive data stored in your Managers. You are it's only guardian, we truly have no access to it (and therefore can't misuse it our put it at risk), so make sure to keep it safe and not lose it or your encrypted data would stay in gibberish form forever. The good news is: this is the only password you now need to remember!
You can adapt your preferences regarding the Master Key from the security section of your Settings. Learn more
To use Face ID or Touch ID, you need to link it to your Master Key. It is as safe as entering the Master Key and more convenient. To set up Face ID or Touch ID, go to the Settings, and under “Biometric authentication” tap on the relevant toggle to enable the one you want.
Not easy to remember all the data you’ve left on the net, but the Data Manager can help you! We built-in a powerful search engine to help you easily find where you left a specific piece of data (addresses, date of birth, bank cards, booking trips or hotels, searches…) or simply a piece of data you added manually for safekeeping.
It is possible to encrypt any or all of the pieces of data saved in the Data Manager but, if you do so, the search feature will not be able to re-index the encrypted data, and it will no longer be searchable. If you want to search all of the data stored, make sure to decrypt it all first.
- Tap on the company name/website to display all associated data
- Tap on the piece of data you wish to delete
- Tap on “Delete data”
- Enter your Master Key or use Touch ID / Face ID to confirm it’s you
You can also delete all the data from a single session at a time:
- Tap on the company name/website to display all associated data
- Tap on the menu (
) on the right of the session date
- Tap on “Delete the data from this session”
- Enter your Master Key or use your Touch ID / Face ID to confirm it’s you
Warning! When you delete data from your Data Manager, the data will disappear from your Manager but it is NOT deleted by the site who gathered it. To remove your data from a company’s database, you need to contact them directly.
